Spotify updated – will no longer run on iPhone 4!

Spotify recently got updated for the iPhone 4, with a different logo colour:

Now, whenever I launch it, the app just crashes back to the home screen. Grr!

Maybe this is a temporary bug, or its time to get a new phone! Stay tuned!

(Apologies for not posting in the last while, I have been busy with exams. They are over now, more content on the way!)

The woes of iMessage

Why, when I send a text via iMessage, does this happen:

It sits like that for aaaaages before finally sending. Switching airplane mode on and off doesn’t help things at all! Grrr!

Antutu Benchmark: Some random benchmarks

I found the Antutu Benchmark on the Apple App Store, so I decided to compare my iPhone 4 to my other mobile devices:

So the iPhone 4 scores 7353 points. The Google Nexus 7 2013 scored:

28124 points (not too surprising since the tablet is running a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro vs the iPhone’s single core).

I fired up my old Sony Xperia U (1.0 GHz dual core):

Some slightly higher scores here at 9241 points (makes sense since the Sony has more cores). I still prefer using the iPhone over the Xperia U since the iPhone actually receives calls properly and iMessage is nice (but groups don’t work properly, more on this later).

I’m not sure if these scores are relateable between iOS and Android, but if they are it seems that my iPhone 4 actually has less processor power than my Xperia U, but still has better real-world performance. Interesting, I will be doing more benchmarks soon!

Vessel on an iPhone 4: Bad!

Vessel is an online video streaming service, similar to YouTube and is owned by Hulu. It runs on a paid subscription model (I have outlined my thoughts on this here).

Since there is no Android app yet, I downloaded the iOS app onto my iPhone 4:

IMG_0646.PNG

The app takes 10-15 seconds to launch, then you need to login to the service. Once you are logged in, you can browse various channels:

IMG_0647.PNG

Looks neat so far! To watch a video, just select it. However, there is an issue:

IMG_0648.PNG

Audio plays back just fine, but the video is just black. Something definitely isn’t working properly quite yet, and there are even more issues in the app:

All the videos were posted “a few seconds ago”?? Hmmmmm.

Vessel is still a very new service, and is definitely going to improve over the next few months.

Vessel limited support (as of now)

I watch a lot of content on my tablet (Google Nexus 7 2013) and recently got Vessel. There’s an issue, though:

Hmm. iOS is supported though (more of that coming soon)!

iPhone 4 timer doesn’t work on lock screen

I noticed that setting a timer using the standard built in app and the locking the phone, a timer appears on the lock screen, but it only shows 00:00 :

It’s not a big deal but it means I have to open the timer app every time I want to check the time!

Three Mobile UK Bundles Still Going!

I posted before about how I was told that their “all-in-one” bundles were going to be disbanded in February…

…well it’s almost April and I just topped up my phone using their All-In-One 15 (300 minutes, 3000 texts, unlimited data). I feel that either they decided to keep the bundles or I was lied to.

Also in the news: Three will be bringing their “Feel-At-Home” plan to Spain and New Zealand too!

Their map currently looks like this:

Nice stuff!

YouTube iOS app stupid feature

I was on the train whilst watching a YouTube video on my iPhone 4, and I got this message:

So it turned my video into a radio show, and refused to turn back into a video until I restarted the app. Grr!

Also, this is annoying too:

Why can’t I select the quality and let it buffer? It lets me over wifi and android devices don’t do this daft quality limitation! It’s like iPhone users are trying to restrict data usage, even to people with unlimited data!

WordPress: Android vs iOS app – uploading media

Having used the Android and iOS versions of WordPress for a while now, I’ve wondered why there is no place to view and upload media in the iOS version:

image

The Andriod version has this option, and this opens a page showing all the uploaded content, and allows you to upload more for putting in posts later on.

This is the iOS version:

image

There is no “media” page, so to upload media you have to create a new private post and upload images directly into that. This causes a lot of fiddling with post settings and takes up a lot of time that could be saved in my opinion.
