Gaming and Video Benchmarks: Intel NUC DN2820FYKH

I ran some more benchmarks on the Intel NUC DN2820FYKH:

The board taken out of the NUC (RAM removed).

The CPU-side of the board.

Lightsmark and Unigine Valley (From Phoronix Test Suite )to assess GPU performance, C-Ray (also from Phoronix Test Suite) and Sysbench to assess CPU performance, and Kodi Media Player with a 4K video (from YouTube) and a high bitrate (130+ Mbps) video to assess playback performance.

Here are the specifications of the systems tested:

Intel NUC DN2820 FYKH:

  • Intel Celeron N2830 @ 2.41 GHz
  • 4GB Crucial DDR3L-1333
  • Intel HD Graphics @ 756 MHz
  • 120GB Kingston SSDNow SSD

HP Pavilion dm1 Notebook:

  • AMD E-350 @ 1.60 GHz
  • 6GB DDR3-1066
  • AMD HD6310 Graphics (384MB) @ 500 MHz
  • 320GB Western Digital Black 2.5″ HDD @ 7200 RPM

Custom Desktop PC:

  • AMD FX6300 @ 3.5 GHz
  • 8GB Kingston Low Profile DDR3-1333
  • Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P mATX Motherboard
  • 30GB Corsair Nova 2 SSD
  • 3 x 500GB Seagate Barracuda HDD’s in RAID-5
  • Sapphire HD5750 GPU 1GB GDDR5

  • NUC: 41.95 FPS
  • HP: 36.71 FPS
  • PC: 540.72 FPS

Unigine Valley

  • NUC: 2.49 FPS
  • HP: 3.84 FPS
  • PC: 29.31 FPS

  • NUC: 204.63 seconds
  • HP: 313.86 seconds
  • PC: 48.10 seconds

  • NUC: 22.9 seconds
  • HP: 81.1 seconds
  • PC: 2.9 seconds

Kodi with 4K video playback

  • NUC: 1 dropped frame, totally smooth
  • HP: unplayable, 8FPS with 100% CPU
  • PC: no dropped frames, totally smooth

Kodi with High Bitrate playback (130+ Mbps)

  • All played back with no dropped frames and were totally smooth

So as a media box, the NUC DN2830FYKH performs extremely well, but its integrated GPU isn’t meant for gaming, just running UI elements and playing back videos with hardware acceleration. Compared to my laptop, it has an awful lot more CPU power but doesn’t have as much GPU grunt. Neither systems can touch the desktop though, and I don’t expect them to!

Multiple ISO's on USB Drive!
