Ubuntu: No sound from Pioneer DDJ-SB!

I have a Pioneer DDJ-SB DJ Controller and I would like to use it with Mixxx 1.11.0 under Ubuntu 14.10:

…only that there’s no sound output. I have fought with alsa for hours and everything seems normal:

aplay -l

john@John-PC:~$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC887-VD Analog [ALC887-VD Analog]

card 1: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]

card 2: DDJSB [PIONEER DDJ-SB], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]

It appears as card 2 and also in PulseAudio. If I map a music program (eg Spotify) to the sound device’s output I still get nothing. The controller works fine under Windows, and it doesn’t work on my laptop either (also running Ubuntu 14.10).

I’ll keep you posted with any improvements!

  1. Ok, i ‘ll test it… but you mean you could get audio output from the Pioneer DDJUSB with that sequence of Chrome > Youtube in LInux?

  2. Hi, have you managed to get it working? I’m still trying to understand how in ubuntu.

    Thanks

    • I found that launching Google Chrome and playing a YouTube video worked, and then other programs would then start working too. Ideally the controller needs to be initialised with a MIDI command from a DJ application (eg: Mixxx) to stop sounds like a login noise coming out the speakers! Chrome seems to initialise the controller in some way. Let me know if this helps!
